This should be an exciting week for Canadian professional soccer, starting tonight with the Canadian Championship, being played in La Belle Province.
CF Montreal, of Major League Soccer, is hosting Forge FC, of the Canadian Premier League, in the final of the Canadian Championship. The winner will hoist the Voyageurs Cup, symbolic of soccer supremacy in the country.
For the host squad and its supporters, a win might in some way salvage what has been a disappointing campaign in MLS. CF Montreal is destined to finish in the basement of the East Division standings.
Meanwhile, Forge FC, which is based in Hamilton, is arguably the CPL's most successful franchise, currently vying for top spot of the league table.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. and will be televised
The Canadian Championship is a season-long summer competition that involved all pro and semi-pro soccer teams from across the country, regardless of level and league. MLS, a USA-based league, is considered the top league, with three Canadian franchises. The CPL is Canada's national league.
